Patient A is 42-year old male who has a BMI of 29. He has recently lost 20 pounds without trying. He also reports feeling hungry and thirsty. Another complaint is feeling tired and run down all the time. His biggest complaint is the frequent potty visits as it is becoming quite disruptive to his job performance. He is a pharmaceutical sales representative who works in the call-center taking orders from doctors. Repetitive potty breaks are frowned upon. Case 2: Patient B Is a 6-year-old female who was brought in by her worried parents due to excessive vomiting and a fever of 101F ̊ which wouldn’t come down even with giving the child the fever reducing medication of Tylenol®. Due to extreme nausea the child is not keeping down food or liquids and parents are concerned for dehydration. The child is also reported to “scream” in agony when using the restroom. A urine sample has been collected from the child and the child has been given an intravenous solution (IV) of isotonic saline to help replenish lost fluid due to excessive vomiting. Case 3: Patient C Is a 20-year old male college student who reports a significant amount of pain when urinating and more recently distracting lower back pain that over the counter pain relievers, such as Tylenol ®, hasn’t been able to relieve. The student reports he is currently avoiding carbohydrates in his diet and opting to eat very high protein rich diet. He states he gained some weight during his freshman year of college and is attempting to take care of himself. It is also final exam time; so, he is drinking more caffeinated beverages such coffee and soda than he normally does. Case 4: Patient D Is a 6-year-old girl whom was brought in for yearly well-being exam. The girl seems in perfect health for her age. No fever or rashes. Mom reports that the only thing of concern is frequent bathroom trips that seem to be urgent. The child also started first grade and the first-grade teacher has also reported to mom that the child is making too many trips to the bathroom reducing learning time. Upon asking the child if she experiences pain or burning while urinating was responded with a “no”. Palpitation of the lower abdomen and lower back the patient states that it doesn’t hurt. A urine sample is collected for analysis
