Group A Group A Initial posting: Douglas is a 50-year-old male who is being evaluated in the emergency room by a nurse from the mental health crisis team. Doug was brought into the emergency room by his wife after experiencing chest pain early in the evening. He arrived in a severe level of anxiety and believed that he was having a heart attack. An EKG and lab work was completed. His EKG, troponin levels, and other lab work are normal. Douglas had a disagreement with his employer and feels his job is in jeopardy. Doug’s wife Norma was laid off from her job several months ago and has been unable to find employment. They are experiencing financial and marital problems. The couple has two sons. Their son Leon is in high school and has been experimenting with alcohol and marijuana and has been having problems in school. Their son Greg is a sophomore in college and although doing well, needs assistance with his college tuition and living expenses. When Doug arrived in the emergency room he was trembling, dizzy, pale, and experiencing tachycardia, nausea, and feelings of dread. He could not follow directions and responded poorly to redirection. His attention and thoughts were scattered. Douglas’s wife had been waiting with him, but she stepped out of the room without notifying the nurse and Douglas is left alone in the room.
